Do You Hear What I Hear?

My house is a variation of a split level. Kitchen, bedroom, laundry room and bath downstairs. Living room, bedroom, and big bathroom upstairs.

The downstairs is the only original part of the house. It used to be a 2 car garage (which translates into one big kitchen) which means there is a concrete floor. Since the heat source is 2 small electric baseboard heaters, it is usually cool in the winter (unless the oven is on).

Upstairs is a propane "fireplace" in the living room. When it comes on, it makes a soft click, then follows with a whoosh as the propane ignites. Because it is adjustable, I can keep the area fairly toasty. To keep the upstairs from sucking all the warm air out of the kitchen, I keep the door between the two areas closed for the most part.

If the mighty C-dog is upstairs, as soon as she hears the click she heads over to stand inches away from it. I swear, one of these days she is going to fuse her metal collar right into her neck. Genius, she ain't.

Today it was fairly warm outside. The kitchen was not cold so I left the door between the two areas open. The heater clicked. I was sitting right next to it and barely heard it. Yet half a house away, Cruella did. She came running up the stairs, planting her face mere inches from the glow.

Pretty amazing hearing for a mutt who doesn't seem to notice when someone is knocking on the door.

Ahhh, She does have fairly large ears, they are like little radar dishes. This is a cute picture of her. My Waylon fights me for the heating pad, I think I might have to buy him his own! Stay toasty girl. XXOOXX

It's toasty here now but the temperature is supposed to drop by morning. From 53 (now) to 20 tomorrow night. Yuck.

Love the new fashion in mutt muffs!

I always wonder about my cats and how close they are to the central heating. I can't touch it, yet they seem to want to crawl into it!

She's a sensible dog, only stirring herself when essential - and being warm is essential;-)

I swear my dog can hear me open up a can of cat food in the kitchen when he is outside. 5 seconds later he's waiting at the door. You have a sweet looking dog, and such a smart cookie too.

Thank you for your comments. One thing I must say about her, she definitely defies the Doberman stereotype!

I have the opposite problem, my dogs imagine they hear knocking at the door and bark their fool heads off.
