Becoming a Professional Photographicator

Because of my Liberty blog, someone got the idea that I know what I am doing when it comes to taking pictures. They have enough faith in my ability that they actually asked me to do their wedding.

I told them I have never done such a thing and they would be better off finding someone who knew what they were doing, it being such an important day and all. They were convinced I have 'an eye for it' and everything will be fine. At least one of us believes that. I'm still trying to talk them into handing out disposable cameras at the door!

Once I had accepted, panic set in. I searched the internet for how to shoot a wedding (the advice given repeatedly was convince the couple to HIRE A PROFESSIONAL!). That didn't do much to boost my confidence.

Then I got thinking that maybe if I had Photoshop, even I would be able to pull it off. Yeah, that would do it.

Except Photoshop is $580.00. Not quite in the budget (really Bassman, I never truly considered it).

All that panic reaction had to be dissolved somehow, so I bought a new camera. This camera, in fact.

(You can tell what a great photographer I am by the fact that this shot is not in focus. And nothing was moving!)

I have read the manual cover to cover (even the spanish section) and I feel no more confident now than I did before. But with two cameras to use I have a better chance of getting one shot of the bride and groom where their features might be discernible. To someone who knows them. Really well.

I have been asked to do a wedding. I told them I would do my best. What the heck. Free food. But don't pay me. Now the pressure is on. All over up and down.

Good luck!

I don't think I am even getting the free food!

No free food? What kind of cheapo wedding is this?
There is a free equivalent of Photo Shop called Gimp that you can download.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll give gimp a try.

Picasa is also a web-downloadable program for picture editing. My aunt took pictures at my cousins wedding (no professional training, I might add) and used picasa to work with the pictures. They turned out great.
I have full confidence in your abilities :-)

You do have an eye. It's what will make the photos unique/memorable....in a good way.

Thanks for the heads up and the faith in my abilities. You may have more than I do!

God you always make me laugh so hard! Not that I am laughing at your situation (maybe a bit) but the way you word your freakouts is always so enjoyable for the reader!

Don't be so hard on yourself! If they didn't think you could do it, they wouldn't have asked! Chill out and pretend it's for your blog!
Just ask them if there are shots they are expecting to have, get those in, and have fun!
