Bassman

Is coming home for a visit tonight! I have not seen him since Memorial Day so it goes without saying (yet here I go and do it) that I'm pretty excited.

His flight arrives around 10 pm.

I may leave for the airport at noon!

Monday Musicale - The Beginning

Last night was the first Monday Musicale. We didn't have the biggest turnout, but we did have people there! We even had people I didn't know (which means I hadn't badgered them into coming).

It was fun. I hope it continues to grow.

Unfortunately, any clips I have with the whole band are awful. Not their fault, it's the sound levels on my camera (I can't figure out how to adjust them). What I have to offer you is Elizabeth with her violin and ending the evening with everyone swing dancing. Enjoy.

It's Okay Now

I had a problem this week and I didn't want to tell you about it until I got the results back because I didn't want you all to worry if it wasn't really a big deal. I was scared and I put off going until I couldn't stand it any longer and well, it was give and take for a few minutes there but super talented, wondrous, top of her field Anita pulled me through and replaced my broken nail.

Phew.

A Fan Letter

See that list of blogs there on the right? You know, the list no one ever pays any attention to?

Well, for the last year or so I have been following 'Here Comes A Storm...' and IT'S CHANGED MY LIFE! Okay, maybe not life changing but it sure has added some fun stuff.

Music - I listen to the music she posts and wonder why I don't have it in my music library. Then I send links to people who I think might enjoy it. After that, I go to itunes and buy most of it (I said most not all Bassman!). I can't say one way or the other but I wouldn't be surprised if she is on their payroll.

Movies - She excels at music selection. But her movie reccomendations! Things I have never heard of but when I check on Netflix, I know I'll have to watch them. So they go into my queue. (Wait! Maybe it is really Netflix she works for!)

Actually, she doesn't work for either of them. I have never met her and doubt I ever will. But you can rest assured that I'll keep following her blog as long as she keeps posting entries. And if you are a fan of the bizarre, sometimes obscure, and occasionally downright wonderful, you might want to check her out too.

My Latest Dive Into the Deep End of the Pool

Because I am so good at getting in over my head (i.e. photographer) I decided to see if I could get some live music happening in our tiny town. The mayor gave me the okay for the Village Green gazebo along with the city supplying electricity (because I don't know any a cappella acts doggone it!). The next challenge would be finding musicians willing to play for donations.

I asked my wonderful neighbors (Casey County's version of a modern Von Trapp family!) and a young man I work with (rock & roll). Both of them agreed. Am I lucky or what?

I still had 2 dates to fill so tonight I went over to Uncle Bob's restaurant in Stanford for their open mic night.

What a treat that was! Outstanding aesthetics, decent food, and more musicians than you could shake a stick at! A person I met through work was there and he introduced me to several other performers, one of whom agreed to take the September 7th date.

This has all gone so smoothly that I am pensive about the impending disaster with my name on it that must be out there. Or perhaps I used all my chaotic karma at the wedding and this really is good to go!

P.S. Hurt or Nine Inch Nails- if you are reading this, I can offer you the date of September 14th!

Poor Daydream

The neighbors borrowed the big horses for a trail ride yesterday. Apparently, Daydream is still a tad worn out.

And likes to play in the water!

Is There A Professional In The House?

Well, before the Kodak and I broke up, we did photograph that wedding. Now before I scare the heck out of the bride and groom (if by some freak chance they find this blog), I will admit that I did get some good pictures.

This, however, was not one of them.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

I always want a relationship to work out but sometimes it isn't meant to be. It was my fault this time, I just wasn't good enough. He deserved someone better, someone who would appreciate him for what he was. I waffled on my decision but in the end I knew what the right thing to do was.

So the Kodak went back to the store.

However, being both fickle and optimistic, I am already looking forward to starting a new relationship. Mr. Canon should be here next week.

Friction Cat

Remember those cars you had as a kid? The kind that you could rub on the carpet and as soon as you let go, they took off like a shot? Remember how much fun they were?

I have discovered that if I pet Cupid rapidly and point her in the direction of Ziggy, she will launch herself at Zig.

Since Ziggy is normally the aggressor, this throws our little world into total chaos.

It's always best that anarchy begin at home.

127 Sale

Many years ago, 120 or so give or take a century, the powers that be decided that Rt. 127 needed more traffic. Take people out into the country and show them all the wonders of small town living. The best way to encourage this traffic would be to have a gigantic yard sale.

The sale route begins in Covington, Kentucky and ends somewhere in Alabama. 450 miles. It's great for the local economy (one of two times a year our hotel is full) but it does make driving a challenge. People try to shop from their car. While they drive!

Can you imagine how frustrating it is to get your car all the way up to the cruising speed of 30 or 35 (if you are lucky) and then have to lock the brakes up because the person in front of you noticed some piece of rusted out treasure in a yard along the road? Something they just have to have to put on display in their home in Virginia. Or Ohio, Mississippi, Indiana, etc.

Everyone is enticed to participate. No one is immune. Some people just have slower vehicles.

At least it won't be slow at work tomorrow night!

Becoming a Professional Photographicator

Because of my Liberty blog, someone got the idea that I know what I am doing when it comes to taking pictures. They have enough faith in my ability that they actually asked me to do their wedding.

I told them I have never done such a thing and they would be better off finding someone who knew what they were doing, it being such an important day and all. They were convinced I have 'an eye for it' and everything will be fine. At least one of us believes that. I'm still trying to talk them into handing out disposable cameras at the door!

Once I had accepted, panic set in. I searched the internet for how to shoot a wedding (the advice given repeatedly was convince the couple to HIRE A PROFESSIONAL!). That didn't do much to boost my confidence.

Then I got thinking that maybe if I had Photoshop, even I would be able to pull it off. Yeah, that would do it.

Except Photoshop is $580.00. Not quite in the budget (really Bassman, I never truly considered it).

All that panic reaction had to be dissolved somehow, so I bought a new camera. This camera, in fact.

(You can tell what a great photographer I am by the fact that this shot is not in focus. And nothing was moving!)

I have read the manual cover to cover (even the spanish section) and I feel no more confident now than I did before. But with two cameras to use I have a better chance of getting one shot of the bride and groom where their features might be discernible. To someone who knows them. Really well.

South Central Kentucky

I decided to go take some photos yesterday for the Liberty blog. The weather was perfect and my supply of pics was almost depleted which meant I was forced into action.

I headed west out of town and turned right onto the first road I came to. It was a backroad, therefore perfect for my needs.

So many of the yards had families enjoying picnics or just sitting outside in the shade. What makes this area so wonderful is that the majority of the people waved as I drove by.

How nice is that?
