It's time to take the new laptop (which, if you remember, is NOT A DELL!) and hit the road.
The first trip will be back to New York. New York in the summertime is absolutely glorious. Rolling hills covered with cattle filled pastures. Slow moving rivers with canoeists and kayakers. Lakes dotted with cottages and restaurants. Wonderful small town celebrations.
The area I grew up in used to have a small amusement park. Nothing too big, a carousel, roller coaster, whip, miniature golf, etc. By the time I was a teenager, Eldridge Park was on its last legs. It was sad to watch the decline.
However, a handful of dedicated volunteers have been trying to bring it back to life. A few years ago they got the carousel back together and running. This year their project was resurrecting the boat ride on the 2 acre lake. I am looking forward to enjoying both of these in the coming week.
But it is the fourth of July! Of course there will be family picnics and fireworks. My daughter and I will go to Sonnenberg Gardens. We might even stop at Canadaigua race track and bet on a few ponies.
Summer in upstate New York is definitely summer in Paradise. I can't wait to get back!

I'm RICH!
I am a multi-millionaire.
Tomorrow I will give each of the kids a million of their own to do with as they will. Once it is gone though, that's it. Don't come back begging for more!
The Bass Man will come home from the road and the only traveling he will be doing from now on is for pleasure.
My mortgage, and my neighbor's, will be paid off. The horses are getting a new barn. Along with a new trailer.
I love having all this money. I know I have lots of new 'friends' who need a loan/gift, but I don't care. Because helping people attain their dreams is such fun.
Each Wednesday and Saturday the money comes rolling in. It happens right before they draw the winning lottery numbers. One of these days, it may actually be true. If that happens, we will spend it all together.

Kentucky Paradise
Yesterday it was 75 degrees, breezy, and sunny. Just the perfect day. I decided a good way to spend part of the afternoon would be to sit in my swing and make sure the world continued on its journey.
This is the view. Every day it gets nicer as the flowers fill in. There are songbirds everywhere adding their voices to the country noise of the cicadas. Heaven.

Dell
Monday night, June 16th, I went online looking to purchase a laptop. I did some research, figured a budget, and decided on a Dell. Tuesday morning my confirmation email states that the laptop will be shipped July 24, 2008. I called Dell to tell them this was unacceptable. The 'agent' told me if I would buy a more expensive battery and upgrade the shipping, they could send it this week.
I explained again that I found that unacceptable. He said he could not do anything about it since he was just an 'agent'. I asked to speak to a supervisor.
I was transferred to someone else. I have no idea if it was a supervisor or not. I explained how I felt and asked the man if he were willing to lose a sale in this economy because of such a slow ship date. He told me they had no problem with this economy and it was fine with him to lose a sale.
My Compaq will be arriving Thursday.

See Ya'
I swear, I will try to make this my last horse related post for awhile.
Two weeks ago I came to the painful decision that I could no longer financially or physically care for 5 horses. My 2 big horses were ridden the least but they were also the animals I had owned the longest. After a quabillion tears. I decided to look for a good home for them.
I find it amazing that I had such a hard time giving 2 horses away. I did find them a good, no a great, home but I had to throw some tack in with them before the people would take them.
Oh my gosh, it was tough taking them up there. I took the old mare first and she was upset to leave her baby behind yet thrilled at all the grass that was now available. I let go of her halter and she couldn't get away from me fast enough.
Once my neighbor and I arrived with the old girl's son, both horses were in hog heaven. More pasture than they had seen in 11 years. Plus they were still together as they had been since Zip was born. It was hard leaving them but I knew they would be taken care of and well loved.
This week I drove up to check on them. They were grazing in the lush pasture without a care in the world. I whistled for them. Both of them lifted their heads and then did the, "Do we know you?" thing.
Hunh! I guess they aren't pining away for me after all.

LOL?
I went to see Shinedown last night in Louisville. I took a young acquaintance (20) with me for some company on the drive to and fro. Silly me.
We talked a bit when we first left our town but he was soon receiving text messages. Lots of them. The good news was that at least I could listen to my CD's while he was doing that.
When we got to the big city we decided to go to dinner first. More text messaging. Dinner conversation was minimal.
Standing in line for the show, texting. Finally inside the venue for his very first rock concert. He listened to the first few songs of the local band that was playing and then jumped back onto the phone keyboard.
Next band, same thing. When Shinedown finally ascended the stage he actually put his phone in his pocket! For approximately 4 songs. Sigh.
By 11 pm the show was over and it was time for the 2 hour drive back home. We talked about how we had enjoyed the show, some of the crazies that are always in attendance at every show, and how he would like to do it again sometime. Of course by then his little phone was buzzing itself to death since it had been at least 15 minutes between messages.
Okay, I kind of get it. I am an older generation that didn't grow up with this technology. Sure he was missing out on an experience so he could talk to friends he saw every day but hey, his choice.
However, now comes the part I find so totally bizarre. He began fighting with his girlfriend. Text-style. Fingers flying, he got more and more agitated. So agitated that he actually called her! To ask her if she still wanted to talk. Apparently she said yes because he told her to hang up in that case and they would go back to texting.
Unbelievable. A society that is incapable of conversing. Am I the only one who finds this sad?

Headache from Hell
Today I am climbing out of the abyss. Yesterday morning I stupidly ignored the early warning sign of shattered vision. By the time I decided to take action, I was falling backwards off the ladder into a migraine.
I called my neighbors to ask for help with chores and then my husband to let him know that I would be out of commission for awhile. I had to get this done quickly before I lost the ability of coherent speech.
I took every kind of pain pill I had, closed all the curtains, and went to bed with the covers over my head. 12 hours later I considered myself lucky that all I had suffered (and still had) was the throbbing head. No throwing up this time.
Today I still have the headache and question my coherence but at least I can see to drive.
It's been 11 years since the last one of these. I hope it is at least that long before I have to go through it again.
