I am one of those people who, once they buy a new piece of technology, expect it to last forever. An example would be that I am using Windows ME for my OS. Hey, it was great when I bought it in 1999, why shouldn’t it still be good?
Therefore, it should be no surprise that I was using an old clamshell type cell phone. No camera, no texting, no nothing. Well, not quite true. I could play an extremely tiny game of chess. And while it may be hard to believe, once was enough for the chess thing.
But the old cell phone plan wasn’t working so well for my husband and I. It was time to upgrade.
The best provider for the area in the country we are next headed to is Verizon. The local Wal-Mart on the island sells Verizon plans and new phones. With a 2 year agreement, the Chocolate would be free and the Juke would be $25. I took one of each and let my husband decide which one he wanted.
Boy howdy, did I get lucky! He chose the Chocolate!
They both have cameras but the Juke is also an MP3. As is it has a capability of 250 songs. If I wished to purchase a chip, I could add another 250. The phone came with ear buds and a USB cable.
I don’t know how to access my itunes with it. Instead I used Windows Media and ripped my CDs. It is absolutely wonderful! It certainly makes treadmill time a bit more bearable.
While I upgraded my phone I also learned about phonezoo.com. Apparently my husband and I were the only ones on the planet that didn’t know about the free ringtones site. Live and learn.
If I stay on this technological fast track next thing I know, I may be buying a GPS or a wireless keyboard!
Whoa now. Let’s not get carried away!

Spring Break
Who would have thought that an island resort area would be swamped during Spring Break? For some reason, the sudden swarms of people have taken me by surprise. One minute my whole block is empty and the next thing you know there are no parking places for miles. Every villa is full. Bicycles everywhere (except on the BIKE TRAIL!).
The biggest kicker is the traffic. Now the island is only 12 miles long but apparently everyone is terrified they are going to get lost. So they switch lanes at the drop of a hat and drive 20 miles an hour (get a map!) Apparently they spell differently too because Y-I-E-L-D means STOP! to all out of towners. It’s a good thing I am such a patient person.
There is one good thing about the visitors. They are happy to be here. They smile at people when they pass them. They say hello. Such a change from the majority of the locals.

Chaos
It's that time in my life. Just like everyone else, I have certain occasions that smack me in the head and demand my full attention. The last 2 weeks have been that. We are trying to figure out who is going where when. By Monday we should have it under control.

Skittle
In October my neighbors came down to visit us. While they were here, one of their young daughters introduced me to a new game. Skittle.
The back story is that supposedly the rarest color Skittle is yellow which is also one of the rarest colors of cars. When you spot a yellow car, you yell out, "Skittle!"
We were walking down the street in Savannah and I called one. She informed me that I was very good at this game.
They have long since gone back home but my family and I down here continue to play. I was driving around the island one day, saw a yellow car, called my husband and left the message, "Skittle!" He couldn't understand the message so he called back in a panic thinking something was wrong.
I passed another yellow car the other day and I couldn't help but think of my young neighbor. I sent her a Hilton Head postcard with her name, the 'S' word, and then signed my name. She wrote me back and let me know that she had seen 4 Skittles and what did I think of that?
Sigh. Bested by a 4 year old!
